Four people died, one was severely injured and 12 remained in hospital under observation after a car lost control and crashed into vehicles and pedestrians in downtown Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, on Monday night, Hangzhou police said.

杭州市警方表示，周一晚上，一司机在浙江省省会杭州市中心开车时车辆失控，冲撞车辆和行人，造成4人死亡，1人重伤，12人留院观察。

杭州市公安局发布通报称，7月30日19时06分，陈某某（女）驾驶浙A87T97号小型客车在竞舟路由北向南行驶至文二西路口（intersection）时车辆失控（lost control of the vehicle）。
目击者称听到了一声巨响（a loud bang），看到空中都是飞起来的碎片（debris flying in the air），护栏（guard rails）都被撞碎（crushed into pieces）。另一名目击者说，一辆车停在马路中间（in the middle of the road），后面两个轮胎（rear tires，后轮胎）已经在两三百米以外了。
公安机关已对肇事驾驶人陈某某作酒精测试（breathalyser test）和尿样检测（urine test），初步排除其酒驾、毒驾嫌疑（not driving under the influence of alcohol and drug），事故原因仍在调查。
肇事车辆（the car involved in the accident）已送第三方（third party）专业机构检测（examination），肇事驾驶人陈某某现在警方控制下接受医院治疗（undergo treatment in hospital under police surveillance）。
