BEIJING - "Striving" and "the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up" have been respectively chosen as the Chinese Character and Word of the Year 2018 in China, according to a survey released Thursday.

北京消息，周四发布的一项调查显示，“奋”与“改革开放四十年”分别当选年度国内字和国内词。

the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up是改革开放四十年；Chinese Character of the Year是年度国内字；Chinese Word of the Year是年度国内词。
“退”（exit）和“贸易摩擦”（trade friction）当选2018年度国际字词（International Chinese Character and Word of the Year）。
自启动至今，“汉语盘点2018年”活动共收到网友推荐（recommendation）字词（characters and words）数千条，投票（vote）量达数十万
除年度国内国外字词外，发布会上还发布了2018年度十大新词语（the top 10 new words）、十大流行语（buzzwords）、十大网络用语（cyber words）。中国农民丰收节（harvest festival for Chinese farmers）、中国国际进口博览会（China International Import Expo）、人类命运共同体（a community with a shared future for humanity）等纷纷入选。
专家表示，这些热词新语是社会的反光镜（reflect the society），是时代的透视机，高度浓缩（epitomize）了一年时间里的中国和世界风貌，尽现（embody）时代民生民情。
