说法话茬第196期:"几乎不"这样翻译正确吗?

【误】The question was so hard that he could almost not answer it.

在我们进行翻译的时候，要翻译“几乎不”这个意思，只能够用hardly，scarcely这两个词表示否定，不能用almost not。

【误】She said almost nothing at the meeting.

她在会议上几乎什么也没说。

【正】She said hardly nothingat the meeting.

【正】She has changed so much that I can scarcely recognize her.

她改变这么大，我几乎认不出来了。

我们今天分析的这位同学的翻译应该这样修改：

【正】The question was so hard that he could hardly answer it.

【正】The question was so hard that he could scarcely answer it.

简而言之，记住翻译中文中的“几乎不”，不能用“almost not”，可以用hardly或者是用scarcely这2个表示否定的词。
