Peking University's climbers succeeded in reaching the peak of Mount Qomolangma – the world's highest peak - to celebrate the 120th anniversary of Peking University's establishment on Tuesday.

周二，北京大学登山队成功登顶世界第一高峰——珠穆朗玛峰，庆祝北京大学成立120周年。

【讲解】

the world's highest peak是世界最高峰。
登山队取道北坡（northern slope），用近两个月的时间完成了这项挑战（accomplish the challenge）。此次攀登的“北京大学珠峰登山队”主要由北大（Peking University）山鹰社队员、北大教师（faculty）和校友（alumni）及登山爱好者（mountaineering enthusiasts）组成，年龄最小的登山队员（the youngest team member）为21岁，最长的（the oldest）为55岁。
登山队在登顶珠穆朗玛峰（reach Mount Qomolangma's peak）后展示了国旗（national flag）、校旗和山鹰社的社旗，同时在珠峰顶峰宣誓了口号（recited the mottos）：“北大精神，永在巅峰”（Peking University's spirit always stays at peak）“团结起来、振兴中华”（keep united, revitalize the Chinese nation）。
“北京大学珠峰登山队”成立（establish）于2016年，每周进行两到三次的体能（physical training）和攀登训练（climbing training）。据统计，自立项以来，所有队员训练距离总计长达5000多公里，其中包括2次50多公里的拉练和1次88公里的拉练；海拔上升（elevation）8万多米，相当于10个珠峰的高度（height）。
