茶话会第411期:你的时间够用吗?

医生们争分夺秒地抢救他的生命。短语against the clock表示“争分夺秒地”，如果你为了准时完成一项任务，一直掐着表在做，就可以用上这个短语，和不同的动词搭配。例句中使用的是race（赛跑）。Doctors raced against the clock to save his life. 医生们争分夺秒地抢救他的生命。They are working hard against the clock to translate the novel. 他们正在分秒必争地赶紧翻译那本小说。

2. The plan must be worked out today. I'm pressed for time.
这个计划今天必须做出来，我时间紧迫。遇到时间非常紧迫的情况，我们可能会说“时间有限”，老外会常说，I'm pressed for time. Pressed我们都知道有“压迫、紧迫”的意思，pressed for time是固定搭配，意思是“时间紧迫”。另外，这句话也表示“我的时间安排得很紧”。The plan must be worked out today. I'm pressed for time. 这个计划今天必须做出来，我时间紧迫。

3. Quick,quick,we are running out of time.
Run out of是固定短语搭配，表示“用光，耗尽”。Run out of money就是用光了钱。例如：They ran out of money and had to abandon the project.（他们没有钱了，只得放弃这个项目。）Run out of time则表示“时间不够了，没有时间了”。Quick, quick, we are running out of time. 快点儿，我们快没时间了。还有一个表达是sth．is running out，表示“某物马上就要没有了”，因而快没时间了也可以表达为time is running out。举个例子：We must act quickly because time is running out.时间已经不多了，所以我们必须动作快些。
