北京市农业部门正在调查媒体报道称首都郊区种植的草莓检测出除草剂残留超标一事，因为消费者害怕，所以农民已经因为销量下降而遭遇打击。

中央电视台周日报道，随机从超市（supermarkets）、种植园（plantations）、批发市场（wholesale markets）等地方购买的8份草莓均测出乙草胺（acetochlor）超标（excessive amounts），乙草胺是一种应用广泛的除草剂（herbicide），大量食用（absorbed in large amounts）可能致癌（carcinogenic）。
据央视报道，送到北京农学院（Beijing University of Agriculture）检测的8份草莓，检测出的乙草胺残留量（acetochlor residues）在0.09mg/kg至0.367mg/kg之间，远高于欧盟标准（far above the European Union standard），欧盟标准是0.05mg/kg。
北京市农业局周一表示，将在全市范围内专项启动草莓生产过程中（in the cultivation of strawberries）的农药使用检查，还将加大对北京市自产草莓产品质量安全检验检测的力度（step up quality tests for strawberry products in the city），一旦发现不合格产品，严禁上市（ban them from the markets）。
目前北京和一些省份的草莓销量（sales of strawberries）已经受到了影响。
中国是世界上草莓栽培面积最大的国家（the world's largest cultivator of strawberries），栽培总面积（total cultivation area）达到13.3万公顷（hectares）。
