中国留学生在美代购毒药 被判16年监禁

A former New York University student from China was sentenced to 16 years in prison after being convicted of trying to buy the deadly toxin ricin on a secretive website to sell it in the form of "simple and easy death pills".

因试图通过网络黑市购买可致命的蓖麻毒素、作为"简易安乐死药丸"出售，一名曾在纽约大学就读的中国留学生日前被判16年监禁。

Le Cheng, 22, was sentenced on Tuesday in Manhattan federal court following his conviction in August on charges he tried to acquire ricin as a weapon, postal fraud and identity theft. Ricin is a fatal toxin with no known antidote.

乐成，现年22岁。曼哈顿联邦法院于周二进行宣判。此次判决是基于去年8月陪审团认定其三项指控罪名成立，包括企图购买蓖麻毒素作为武器、邮件欺诈以及盗用他人身份。蓖麻毒素是一种致命毒药，迄今没有任何解药可以解毒。

Judge Alison Nathan said the "horrible, serious and quite terrifying offense" required a severe sentence, but added that no one had been harmed by the plot because Le's communications were intercepted online.

法官艾利森·内森表示，该事件“情节严重，骇人听闻”，应予以重判。他还补充说道，由于乐成的通讯信息在网上被截获，所以该事件并未致人员伤害。

Among evidence introduced at his trial were statements Le made in writing about getting ricin froman FBI covert employee, including: "If you can make them into simple and easy death pills, they'd become bestsellers."

在法庭审判时的相关证据显示，乐成在同FBI的卧底聊天时写道，“如果你能把蓖麻毒素做成速效死亡药片，肯定会大卖。”

During a statement in court, Le said he planned to appeal, but he regretted having done such a thing.

乐成在法庭陈述中表示，他将上诉，但也表示后悔自己的所作所为。

"Not a day goes by where I don't think of all the things I could have done," Le said.

他说：“没有一天不在思考我原本可以去做的事情”。
