unit表示“单位”的用法与易错点

　　unit 表示汉语的“单位”，主要有两种可能，一是指构成整体的“单位”或“单元”;二是指计数或计量的“单位”。如：

A gram is a unit of weight. 克是重量单位。

The meter reads 5,500 units. 仪表标明为5,500单位。

The book is divided in to ten units. 这本书分成10个单元。

The family is often taken as the unit of society. 家庭常被视为社会的基本单位。

　　所以，我们平常说的“工作单位”，通常不宜用 unit 表示，可根据情况灵活表达。如 ：

All my workmates are friendly to me. 我单位的同事对我都很好。

I live a long way from work, as you know. 我住得离工作单位很远，这你是知道的。

Her friends from work came to see her in hospital. 她工作单位的朋友到医院来看望她。

　　若所说的单位指的是工作地点，则可考虑用 workplace。如：

It takes me half an hour to go to my workplace by bus. 我到单位上班要坐1小时的公交车。

当然，如果所说的“单位”指的是构成整体的部分，则可用unit来表示。如：

I can see no justification for dividing the company into smaller units. 我认为没有理由把公司划分成小单位。

Both units are largely dependent on the parent company. 两个单位均主要依靠母公司。

　　附录：unit 的意义比较多，除以上提到的用法外，它还可表示：

(1)(机构中的)科，室，部门。如：

She has been transferred to another unit. 她调到另外一个部门去了。

(2)(团队或部队中的)小队，分队。如：

It’s a unit of highly-trained soldiers. 那是经过高度训练的士兵小分队。

(3)(一幢楼中的)一套房子，一单元。如：

The building contains 50 housing units. 这座大楼有50套住房。

(4)(机器中的)构件，部件，元件。如：

the central processing unit in a computer 计算机的中央处理机

(5)(家具的)组合件，一套中的一件。如：

I want to buy some kitchen units. 我想买些厨房设备。
